I would advise you to study the solutions available and do some testing and see which one best suits your requirements. I would like to know how to backup and restore mysql database through vb.net by using mysqldump.I have some code but a code for restore database does not s help me. If you're familiar with *nix and file systems, then maybe an LVM solution might be for you? Try here. Another solution would be MyDumper - again a Percona backed tool (except this one also copes with MyISAM tables).

Open the MySQL Workbench and logged in using username and password. To create a database, do the following steps: 1. In this section, we are going to see how a database is created, altered, and drop by using the MySQL Workbench. Two (other Open Source) backup solutions not mentioned in the post above are Percona's XtraBackup which can be cron'd or Zmanda's (which was mentioned in the High Performance MySQL book by Schwartz et al.). MySQL Workbench Create, Alter, Drop Database. Also, it depends on whether your tables are InnoDB or MyISAM (hope it's InnoDB!).

Some of the solutions are OS dependent - basically, you have more choices if you're on Linux/*nix than on Windows (which are you?). Suggesting that I install MySQL 8 is not an option, since the data that needs exporting and has emojis (the reason for using Workbench 8) resides in 5.7 server. There are many ways you can perform backups. Or make Workbench detect MySQL versions that dont have this option and add it automatically. You can perform manual backups using Workbench, but I'm assuming that's not your long term goal. MySQL Workbench is a client querying and modelling tool and a very good one at that - it's purpose is not to perform server tasks - that's the job of the server.
